Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta

In the 2002 General Election, Kenyatta took a jab at the presidential race but was defeated by Hon. Mwai Kibaki who went on to  succeed President Daniel arap Moi. Uhuru Kenyatta took over the role of opposition leader until 2007 when he backed incumbent President Kibaki for the top seat.

After the 2007 elections, Kenyatta was appointed by President Kibaki to serve as a Minister for Local Government up to January 2008. In April 2008, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade. In the same year, Uhuru Kenyatta was transferred to the Treasury as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, as part of the Grand Coalition Government arrangement. He served until February 2012.

In 2013, Uhuru Kenyatta formed TNA, a fresh party with young officials that appealed to all sectors of society. TNA teamed up with William Ruto’s URP to forge a formidable political coalition that went on to beat the opposition in the 2013 General Election. Kenyatta was sworn in as Kenya’s fourth President on 9th  April 2013.

In 2016, President Kenyatta formed Jubilee – a national party that brought together 11 political parties, including the then Deputy President Ruto’s URP. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta was sworn in to a second and final term in office as President of Kenya on 28th November 2017 following his resounding victory that saw him re-elected during the 26th October 2017 fresh presidential election. The fresh presidential election was occasioned by the decision of the Supreme Court to annul the 8th August 2017 presidential election, which President Kenyatta had won.

President William Samoei Ruto, who was sworn in to office on 13th September 2022, succeeded his then former boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, to become Kenya’s fifth President.
